Biography

My first encounter with photography was when I was an 11yr old schoolboy.
I had an opportunity to go to Switzerland and my dad bought me a Brownie 127 camera to record the trip.
Sadly, no photos remain of that holiday, but the thrill of seeing pictures I had taken - indeed the whole process of capturing a moment in time - has never left me. 56 years later, I still get a kick from my hobby and I am a compulsive photographer yet!
Because of a very demanding job (I was for 29 years part of a team of Christian Ministers of the Gospel in a very busy local church) I wasn’t able to commit myself to a camera club but, as I approached retirement I was able to join my fellow enthusiasts at the Pontefract CC and I am enjoying every minute of it.

Equipment

I use Nikon 35mm equipment and my passion is slide film; but recently I purchased a Nikon digital SLR.
I invariably use aperture priority or manual settings with whatever camera I use - one of the advantages of using the same brand is that all my lenses fit the new camera.
I like the immediacy of DSLR, but still like the wait for my slides to come back from the processors as well as the joy of using partly mechanical cameras.

Inspirations

My interests as far as subject matter is concerned are mainly landscapes and natural history, but I am open to all other subjects and am willing to try new challenges. I think it is always stimulating to step outside your comfort zone.
Being a compulsive photographer I find myself constantly ‘looking’ at the world around me and find inspiration in most things.
