Biography

My interest in photography goes back many years (too many) to my teens. My early photography was mainly Architectural which reflected the fact I started my working life in Architecture before moving into Project Management.

I have always been passionate about all aspects of the natural world, particularly birds.
It was a natural progression into bird photography and this remains my main photographic interest today.
Now that I have retired I hope to spend more time behind the lens - watch this space as they say.

Equipment

I use Canon digital cameras, namely IDs Mk11 and 1D Mk11. The lenses I use regularly are all Canon L series:16-35 f2.8L, 24-70 f2.8L, 35-350L, 300 f4L and 600 f4L. I also use Canon 1.4x and 2x extenders plus extension tubes.

Processing is done in Photoshop CS4 on an Apple iMac computer.

Inspirations

The sheer beauty and diversity of the natural world.

The American photographer Art Morris is, in my opinion, the best bird photographer around.

Other natural history photographers I admire include Stephen Dolton, Andy Rouse, Frans Lanting and Art Wolfe.

Comments

It's the photographer that takes great photographs - not the camera.

Don't get hung up about the spec. of your camera and lenses."
